Emilia Fox

About Emilia Fox

Born to one of Britain's best known thespian clans, daughter of Edward Fox and calls James Fox uncle, Emilia grew up in Little Venice in London. A self confessed goodie-two shoes, Emilia says the worst thing she ever did in her childhood was "to shop-lift a yoghurt raisin from a pick 'n' mix."

She tried to rebel by refusing to go into the 'family business' but in fact followed right in her mother's footsteps. In 1995 she appeared alongside her mother in Pride and Prejudice and just two years later took on the part of the second Mrs. de Winter in Rebecca, the same role her mother, Joanna David, played in 1978.

And if coming from such refined acting stock isn't enough - in 2005 Emilia married Jared Harris, son of Richard Harris. That makes one truly luvvied-up family. Wonder what profession their children will go into?

Petticoats and pianos

Emilia has made period dramas her forte with parts in David Copperfield and The Scarlet Pimpernel. A brief interlude included roles in Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer's modern take on Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) and Other People's Children. By 2002 she was back to what she does best: historical dramas. Her Hollywood break came in Roman Polanski's World War II film The Pianist co-starring Adrien Brody, before donning her costumes again for Helen of Troy and Henry VIII.

A fine romance

Emilia's love life hasn't always been such an easy ride and has had her fair share of complicated romances. In 2000 she met, fell in love with and agreed to marry Vic Reeves. She admits she must have had a momentary lapse of sense, but they are still good friends and plan to work together again soon. Next came an ill-fated relationship with Toby Mott, a fashion designer, before she finally found Mr Right.

Many strings...

Emilia likes to multitask. As well as acting on screen, she took to the stage for Richard II and Coriolanus at the Almeida with Ralph Fiennes. She also lends her voice to BBC radio plays, documentaries, adverts and audio books.
