Originally from Chicago, defence lawyer Jamie Sawyer (played by Anna Wood) is a ballsy and beautiful Yankee litigator and comes armed with just the right amount of street-smarts to take on the good ol' boys of Charleston, South Carolina.

Having just relocated to Charleston, Jamie takes on disgraced former Charleston PD officer Lee Anne Marcus as a client, defending her in a controversial police sex scandal, coming up against the charming Roy Rayder.

The enviously cool Jamie and steaming newly appointed city attorney Roy must hide their intense mutual attraction for each other as they battle it out in the courtroom.

Alongside Jamie is Vi Briggs (played by Kim Wayans), a paralegal at Jamie's law firm - serving as private investigator and confidante. Vi is an expert in digging up the perfect information for winning a case.
