Death in Paradise - Supporting Characters
Tropical island Saint Marie may be beautiful, but the murders there ain't quite so pretty. Learn more about the team charged with bringing the culprits to justice.

-
Camille Bordey played by Sara Martins (S1-4)
Detective Sergeant Camille Bordey is sexy, instinctive and straight-talking. A former undercover investigator, she's bemused by the parade of British detectives the Met keep sending to the island. Camille was raised by her French mother in Saint Marie and trained in Paris, where she learned to follow her intuition rather than procedure. After Richard Poole’s death at the beginning of Series 3, Camille found it difficult to warm to the chaotic DI Humphrey Goodman but they ended up becoming good friends, which made the decision for her to move back to Paris at the end of Series 4 all the harder.
-
Dwayne Myers played by Danny John-Jules (S1-present)
Dwayne Myers is the longest-serving officer of the Saint Marie police force and knows the island inside and out. He seemingly has connections with everyone, even if some of them are a little shady. Utterly loyal to his team, his local knowledge proves invaluable to Richard Poole and, later, Humphrey Goodman, but there’s no doubting that his detection methods are a little questionable and he’s prone to bending the rules to breaking point on occasion to get the job done.
-
Fidel Best played by Gary Carr (S1-3)
Fidel Best is young, keen and at times naïve. There's nothing he won't do for his friends and his determination can prove vital in breaking a case. In many ways the complete opposite of his colleague Dwayne Myers, Fidel sticks doggedly to protocol and has ambition in spades. He’s put forward for his sergeant's exams by Richard Poole at the end of Series 2 and passes with aplomb. At the end of Series 3, looking for new opportunities, he leaves to join the police force on the neighbouring island of St. Lucia.
-
Selwyn Patterson played by Don Warrington (S1-present)
The island's police commissioner, Selwyn is charming, intelligent and a real people’s person. Having done his time at the coalface whilst rising up through the ranks, Selwyn likes to be as hands-off as possible. He’s more than happy to let his team get on with things, only stepping in when he can add his weight and influence to a difficult case, particularly when it involves any of the island’s more notable residents. He’s proud of his police force though and particularly concerned that it has an excellent public image.
-
Catherine Bordey played by Élizabeth Bourgine (S1-present)
Catherine is Camille's French mother, a bright and breezy character and a popular figure in the local community. She met Camille's father on Saint-Marie and, despite the relationship not working out, made the island her home. Now the owner of a beautiful beach-front bar, she’s often a confidant to the regulars and to the members of the police team who like to hang out there after a case. She is saddened when Camille tells her she is moving back to Paris at the end of Series 4, but supports her daughter in her decision.
-
Florence Cassel played by Joséphine Jobert (S4-present)
When Fidel best leaves for St. Lucia at the end of Series 3, he’s replaced as Sergeant by the charming but tough Florence Cassel. Florence can spot a guilty conscience a mile off. No wonder she can hold her own, because she grew up with five bossy brothers and learned to sort out out the truth from the lies when it came to their juvenile antics. But, despite being the no-nonsense type when it comes to policing, Florence has a wicked sense of humour and endears herself to everyone on the team. Her dedication and hard work is rewarded when Camille Bordey heads for Paris and Florence is promoted to Detective Sergeant.
-
JP Hooper played by Tobi Bakare (S4-present)
When Florence Cassell is promoted, there’s a vacancy on the Saint Marie police team. Enter young JP Hooper, fresh out of police training college but keen as mustard to prove himself as good copper. JP has a lot to learn, but what better way to get up to speed on the realities of police work than with the unconventional Dwayne Myers? It takes JP a while to wise up to Dwayne’s offbeat methods, but he remains endlessly enthusiastic and dedicated and if he doesn’t always see to eye-to-eye with his colleague, he’s still fiercely loyal to him and the team.
