Who's Who in Father Brown

When crime comes calling in Kembleford, it’s not just Father Brown who’s on the case…

  • Father Brown (Mark Williams)

    Father Brown (Mark Williams)

If you met Father Brown, you’d probably think; “He’s a nice chap... a bit scatterbrained and not as dignified as you’d expect a priest to be, but his heart is in the right place.” If so. you would be woefully underestimating this wise and wily man of the cloth. He may seem mild-mannered and unremarkable but Brown is blessed with an uncanny intuition and a keen understanding of human nature. His mission in life, both as a holy man and as a sleuth, is to help his fellow man and save troubled souls.

  • Sidney

    Sidney "Sid" Carter (Alex Price)

Father Brown likes to utilise the skills of those around him when he's on the trail of a culprit, and none more so than jack-the-lad Sidney Carter. Sid eventually becomes Lady Felicia's chauffeur, but he has something of a dodgy background. He's mixed with the wrong people in the past and got up to no good from time to time, but his connection to the seedy side of Kembleford can prove extremely useful in digging up clues in tough cases.

  • Mrs Bridgette McCarthy (Sorcha Cusack)

    Mrs Bridgette McCarthy (Sorcha Cusack)

Bridgette is the bustling Irish parish secretary at St Mary’s, Father Brown’s church. Something of a busybody, Bridgette likes to keep on top of things and looks after day-to-day church business when Brown is busy with sleuthing. She is prone to being a bit too bossy and is something of a gossip when it comes to the goings-on in the village, but she's very loyal, a close confidante to Brown and very protective of him.

  • Lady Felicia Montague (Nancy Carroll)

    Lady Felicia Montague (Nancy Carroll)

Lady Felicia has a lot of money and not much to do, so she sees getting involved in Father Brown’s cases as something of a distracting hobby. A fixture of Kembleford’s social scene, Felicia is a bit of a flirt but, although she may come across as flighty and frivolous, she’s no slouch when it comes to helping Brown catch his culprits. Felicia has something of a love-hate relationship Mrs McCarthy - the pair are constantly trying to one up each other but, in the end, a grudging respect emerges.

  • Inspector Valentine (Hugo Speer)

    Inspector Valentine (Hugo Speer)

The head of the local force, Valentine doesn’t know whether to hug or hit Father Brown sometimes. It’s true that Brown gets results, but he’s often doing the police’s job better than the police themselves and that’s hard for Valentine to stomach. At the end of Series 1, Valentine is promoted and replaced by the equally exasperated Inspector Sullivan (Tom Chambers). In the end Sullivan can’t help but admire the clever cleric but, when Inspector Mallory (Jack Deam) takes over in Series 4, he proves to be an even pricklier police chief than his predecessors.
