Don't miss all-new Frankie Drake Mysteries - Tuesdays at 9pm from 22nd January
Frankie Drake Mysteries follows Toronto's only female private detectives in the 1920s as they take on the cases the police don't want to touch. In a time of change and hopefulness, their gender is their biggest advantage as they defy expectations and rebel against convention.
In Series 1, Frankie (Lauren Lee Smith) and Trudy's (Chantel Riley) fearless sense of adventure saw them take on a whole range of intriguing cases, from infiltrating the dangerous world of bootlegging to solving an impossible murder on a silent movie set and breaking up a notorious smuggling ring. We also learned how Frankie and Trudy first met, and how Drake Private Detectives was formed.
In Series 2, their cases once again take them through every cross section of Toronto, from investigating antique scams in museums and match-fixing in baseball to encountering a kidnapping at a dance contest and solving the theft of a famous diamond. Frankie also gets to go undercover as a magician's assistant when a magic act goes wrong and results in a tragic death.
The show also continues to incorporate real-life historical figures and, in Series 2, we meet famed French designer Coco Chanel (Romaine Portail) when she hires Drake Private Detectives to protect her after an assassination attempt and civil rights hero Marcus Garvey (Ryan Allen) also makes an appearance when he tasks the team to find out who has stolen donations made to an orphanage.
Frankie also has a new adversary in Series 2 in the formidable form of Detective Tom Greyson (Anthony Lemke).
Never on the greatest terms with the local constabulary, things might have taken a turn for the worse as Detective Greyson is transferred to the Toronto police force and proves straight away to be a thorn in Frankie's investigations.
Later on, morality officer for the police force Mary Shaw (Rebecca Liddiard) spots Greyson removing evidence from a crime scene. Is this stern, highly regimented Detective actually a corrupt cop? And should Mary report her boss?
