We join Murdoch as he proceeds with plans to build a house and create a happy life for himself and his wife, Dr Julia Ogden (Hélène Joy). But unbeknown to the detective, Ogden is suffering silently from guilt for killing her tormentor, the psychotic Eva Pearce (Daiva Johnston).

In an effort to distract herself from her anxiety, Ogden is introducing her newly-arrived friend Lady Suzanne Atherly (Samantha Bond) and her daughter Elizabeth to Toronto society at a debutante ball. Unfortunately, the elegant event turns deadly when one of the ladies vying to marry Toronto's most eligible bachelor is murdered. The situation worsens when a destructive fire begins to rage throughout downtown Toronto distracting the police from the case and putting Ogden in grave danger.

Inspector Brackenreid (Thomas Craig) takes aim.

From a murder involving the Olympic Champion Canadian soccer team, an investigation into a man wrongfully jailed, the introduction of H.P. Lovecraft (the master of the macabre), a wronged woman who goes on a serial killing spree, to the death of a prize pooch at a dog show, there is very little rest for Murdoch, Ogden, Brackenreid, Crabtree, James and the rest of Station Four. And as all this goes on, Murdoch tries to deliver on his promise to his wife and build her the home of her dreams. Or is it his nightmare?
