Series thirteen continues to explore the personal and professional developments in the lives of Detective William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson), Dr. Julia Ogden (Helene Joy), Inspector Thomas Brackenreid (Thomas Craig), Constables George Crabtree (Jonny Harris) and Henry Higgins-Newsome (Lachlan Murdoch), and Detective Llewelyn Watts (Daniel Maslany) as they tackle Toronto's toughest mysteries, from the serious and historic to the comical and unusual.
Meanwhile, Ogden is happily settled into her role as a full-time surgeon at Toronto Mercy Hospital but is surprised by the attentions of her colleague Dr. Andrew Dixon (Sebastian Pigott).
Crabtree's creative streak continues with his new paramour, lawyer Effie Newsome (Clare McConnell), encouraging him to send his manuscript to publishers. And the stories of his past begin to unspool as his family reappears in his life. Sadly, Higgins-Newsome is feeling very discouraged by his inability to support his new wife Ruth (Siobhan Murphy) in the lifestyle she'd grown accustomed to and makes a hasty decision to stabilise his finances. Marriage tension is also on the mind of Brackenreid after admitting last year to Margaret (Arwen Humphreys) to a long-ago infidelity.
