Starring Yannick Bisson as Detective William Murdoch, the show tells the story of the titular Murdoch, a man who's leading the charge for new, scientific methods of police work in the city of Toronto.
At his side are his wife, Dr Julia Ogden (Hélène Joy), Constable George Crabtree (Jonny Harris), Dr Emily Grace (Georgina Reilly) and Inspector Brackenreid (Thomas Craig) as they all try and get to grips with the young 20th century and times of change.
By the end of the eighth series, Crabtree was locked up and charged with the death of his sweetheart Edna's abusive husband after an emotional and harrowing battle. George's bloody boots and his refusal to speak has placed him firmly behind bars and put his detective's job in question.
That wasn't the only cliffhanger - Lillian Moss (Sara Mitich) asked Dr Emily Grace (Georgina Reilly) to move to London with her so that the two could continue their support of the Suffragette Movement in England. Emily had not made a decision - will she leave her life in Toronto behind?
This series also introduces Mouna Traoré as Rebecca James, a young protegee whom Julia takes under her wing, and there are more real-life characters from history popping up as well - look out for Canadian Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier, Anne of Green Gables author Lucy Maud Montgomery and literary icon Mark Twain played by sci-fi icon William Shatner!
As ever, Murdoch Mysteries delivers more top-notch crime drama with our brilliant and innovative hero William at the helm.
