About Joan Hickson

Joan Hickson (1906-1998) OBE was a well-loved British actress whose film career spanned over 50 years. Her first film was the 1937 thriller Love from a Stranger, starring Basil Rathbone, which was based on an Agatha Christie story. Her last was Century in 1993, directed by Stephen Poliakoff and co-starring Charles Dance. Joan achieved worldwide fame with the 12 episodes of Miss Marple in which she starred between 1984 and 1992. It has been shown in 30 countries, including China and the former Soviet Union.
