Early Career

Born 19th July 1976, Benedict Cumberbatch graduated from London Academy of music and dramatic arts and since then secured his first role in Theatre in 2011.

Since then he has appeared in dozens of plays such as Hedda Gabler which he was nominated for an Olivier Award for his supporting role as George Tesman. This role lead him to his first West End appearance.

On TV

Benedict's earliest TV role was in Heartbeat (2000 & 2004) appearing as two different guest roles. He also appeared in Silent Witness (2002) and Fortysomething (2003).

However he is mostly known for being cast main character in Sherlock Holmes as Sherlock himself.

On Film

Benedict's first film role was in To Kill a King (2003) and his next role was William Pitt the Younger in Amazing Grace (2006). He also featured in War Horse (2011), 12 Years a Slave (2013) and played Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness (2013).

Animation

In 2012 Benedict has provided voice-over for Smag The Dragon & The Necromancer fot The Hobbit film series. He has also provided voice-over for The Simpsons for characters such as the British Prime Minister and Severus Snape.
