NYPD Detective Carrie Wells (Poppy Montgomery) has hyperthymesia, a rare medical condition that gives her the ability to remember absolutely everything... every person she's ever met, every conversation she's ever had, every place she's ever gone.
Whether she's investigating the murder of a student environmental activist, the beating to death of a boxing champion, an exclusive prep school's deadly college entrance exam cheating scandal, or a celebrity chef's violent end, Carrie relies on her brilliant and unfailing memory to bring elusive criminals to justice.
After her sister died, Carrie became a cop and tried to solve her murder but, when the case was shut down, she retired and moved to New York City. Nine years later, after witnessing a murder, she is convinced by her ex-boyfriend Al Burns to get back on the job.
As she continues dealing with her own problems, including a gambling addiction, Carrie and her partner Al Burns (Dylan Walsh) struggle with the remnants of a romance that dates back to high school.
While she and her colleagues confront political cronyism and police corruption standing between them and the truth, Carrie wrestles with the blessing and curse that's made her a potent weapon in the Major Crimes Section's investigative arsenal.
Joining the cast for the gripping final season is Detective "Denny" Padilla (E.J. Bonilla), a young cop who has a penchant for Carrie, and the new boss of the Major Crimes Section of the NYPD, Captain Sandra Russo (Kathy Najimy).
And with the departure of Dr Joanne Webster (Jane Curtin), the show welcomes new medical examiner Dr Delina Michaels (Alani Anthony).
