Before Yannick Bisson's incarnation of Detective William Murdoch, there were three made-for-TV movies adapted from the novels of Maureen Jennings starring Peter Outerbridge. In this final outing, Murdoch investigates the murder of Dolly Capshaw, a seemingly upstanding mid-wife who, it turns out, had a deep, dark secret. Murdoch's investigation involves many people whose lives had crossed with Capshaw's including Maud Pedlow, the wife of a prominent Superior Court judge, played by Hélène Joy who would go on to play Dr Julia Ogden in the TV series.
