Eliza Scarlet
Played by Kate Phillips
Feisty and fiercely independent, the clever and cunning Eliza Scarlet always longed to follow in her father's footsteps and be a sleuth. Now, with his sudden passing, she's getting the chance to fill his shoes, take over his failing business and become the daring detective that Victorian London didn't know it needed. Although his death in an enormous loss, the tips and tricks her father taught her as she grew up will prove invaluable.

Inspector William Wellington (aka The Duke)
Played by Stuart Martin
The rough and roguish William Wellington is an Inspector for Scotland Yard and believes that being a detective is a job for a man and it's down to tough coppers like him to keep the streets of London safe for ladies like Eliza. He's about to be proved very, very wrong! Beneath his gruff exterior, though, William is a good-hearted fellow who is fond of Miss Scarlet and, despite himself, reluctantly teams up with her.

Rupert Parker
Played by Andrew Gower
Rupert Parker is a mild mannered and slightly nervous young man who also happens to be from an extremely wealthy family. Pushed around by his domineering mother, Mrs Parker, he longs to strike out on his own, leave home and find some independence, which makes Eliza and him kindred spirits. When he offers to invest financially in her detective agency, the pair become close friends.

Moses
Played by Ansu Kabia
Miss Scarlet first meets the shady Moses, an infamous crook from Jamaica, when she's tracking down a missing person on her first case and he's working as a minder for chorus girls in a seedy Soho club. Eliza incurs his violent temper but she proves more than a match for him and earns his respect. And maybe his intimate knowledge of the London underworld will prove a valuable source of information for future cases.

Henry Scarlet
Played by Kevin Doyle
Miss Scarlet’s late father, Henry, was a retired police officer who turned his hand to private investigating. A close friend of William "The Duke" Wellington and a mentor to him, Henry was steadily drinking away the profits of his own business when he suddenly died, leaving Eliza penniless. In his heyday, though, he was a much respected and admired detective and he remains very much alive in her memory.

Ivy
Played by Cathy Belton
Ivy is the Scarlet's strict and savvy housekeeper. She runs a tight ship and, being on the front line of domestic duties, is the first to realise that the family's finances might be in peril. Something of a confidante and mother figure to Eliza, since her own mother died, she takes up a greater parental role with the passing of Henry Scarlet, although getting the impulsive Eliza to heed her advice often proves difficult.

Mrs Parker
Played by Helen Norton
A friend of the Scarlet family, although not very friendly to say the least, Mrs Parker is a stubborn, hot-tempered busybody. The matriarch of a rich family, she's initially intent on making a match between Eliza and her son Rupert. As Henry Scarlet forgot to renew the lease on the family home it later transpires that, although Eliza has been spared an unpleasant mother-in-law, she’s gained an unpleasant landlady!

Detective Inspector Frank Jenkins
Played by Danny Midwinter
DI Frank Jenkins is William Wellington's sidekick at Scotland Yard. With the Metropolitan police swamped with cases, it's all hands to the pump, but Frank resents having to do any work he considers beneath him and is quick to assert his authority on anyone with a lower rank. With the Duke getting more and more credit for cracking cases (thanks to Eliza's assistance), Frank is in danger of being left in the dust.
