Whether your favourite is Beckett, Castle, Ryan or Martha, find out what makes them tick.

-
Richard Castle
Best-selling author, Richard Castle lives with his teenage daughter and mother. His life is never short on drama, but after killing off his most famous character, Derrick Storm, Castle was in desperate need of inspiration for this next book series.
When a serial killer began staging murders which copied the murder scenes in his books, Castle was pulled in by NYPD Detective Kate Beckett to consult on the investigation. It was then he discovered the perfect muse for his new book series. All his years of research paid off, as Castle used his crime knowledge and skills to help bring the killer to justice. In the aftermath of that case, an unlikely but valuable partnership was formed.
Despite, or perhaps because of, the tension between the pair, there?s little doubt that Castle has found much more than just a muse in Beckett.

Kate Beckett
One of the youngest women to become an NYPD homicide detective, Kate Beckett is a tough, smart investigator who has gained a reputation as a detective who?s intrigued by the sort of cases that don?t fit neatly into a box. It?s a reflection of her ongoing quest for justice. Motivated to join the force after her mother?s unsolved murder, Beckett?s first-hand experience with tragedy fuels her drive to bring closure and justice to the victims and their families.
Solving case after case, Beckett and Castle have become unlikely partners with a very successful track record. The romantic tension of their early days has now evolved into a burgeoning relationship? Although she feigns annoyance, Beckett is a huge fan of Castle?s previous novels and gets a secret kick out of being his inspiration.
-
Javier Esposito
Before joining the 12th precinct as a homicide detective, Esposito served in the Special Forces and was an officer in the Organized Crime Task Force. Alongside his partner Detective Ryan, they work tirelessly with Beckett to solve murders.
Esposito is a loyal partner and a dedicated cop. Even in the face of adversity, nothing can break him. He may have a bit of a bromance with Ryan, but he considers himself something of a ladies man. Despite his constant wise cracks, Esposito is very intuitive and has always recognized the romantic tension between Beckett and Castle.
-
Kevin Ryan
NYPD Detective Kevin Ryan works alongside Esposito as part of Beckett?s investigative team. He began his career in the Narcotics squad, but jumped at the opportunity to work Homicide.
Ryan is charming, quick-thinking and has a wealth of obscure knowledge. Recently married to the love of his life, Jenny, he is extremely loyal in his personal and professional life. Though he often pokes fun at his co-workers, Ryan has no problem admitting his own shortcomings. He is a dedicated professional, who often enjoys having Castle around, but will always go above and beyond to bring criminals to justice.
-
Lanie Parish
Lanie is a Medical Examiner at the top of her field. She always says it like it is and doesn't mind spending more time with dead people than the living, as long as she can put on a party dress and leave it all behind at the end of the day.
She?s Beckett?s confidante and is very protective of her friend. She can also see right through her when it comes to her relationship with Castle. In her mind, there?s nothing wrong with dating someone you work with (and she?s proven that with Esposito). She knows what she wants and she isn?t afraid to get it, by any means necessary.
-
Alexis Castle
Castle?s daughter, Alexis, is his only child from his first marriage. She is wise beyond her years and has inherited Castle?s charm and wit, but is overly practical and methodical about her own life.
Sometimes it?s difficult to tell which one?s the parent and which one?s the child, but as she approaches adulthood, Alexis is beginning to challenge her relationship with Castle and isn?t afraid to test her limits. However, she knows that no matter what - he will always be there to cheer her on.
-
Martha Rodgers
Castle?s mother, Martha Rodgers, is a former Broadway actress who never quite made it, but that hasn?t stopped her from seeking whatever spotlight she can. Despite being swindled out of her savings by an ex-husband and being forced to move in with her son and granddaughter Alexis, Martha is happy to keep family close by.
She?s always there to point Castle in the right direction? or whichever direction she thinks is right. She may not have all the right answers, but Martha stands by her family with loyalty, love and usually a glass of wine.
-
Victoria Gates
Captain Victoria Gates is the newest member of the 12th Precinct having taken over from the deceased, Roy Montgomery. She has strong political aspirations and seems determined to do whatever is necessary to climb the ladder at One Police Plaza.
Captain Gates began as a detective with internal affairs, but missed out on being the youngest woman in the NYPD to make detective by six weeks, having been beaten by Detective Kate Beckett.
She is not entirely thrilled with Castle?s contributions to the precinct and the professional embarrassment he might cause to her, but she abides by his presence because of his friendship with the Mayor. Despite being a stickler for the rules, Gates is a fair and decent cop - sometimes even backing up her detectives when they least expect it.
